Kumbakonam:
1.Kumbeswarar Temple

Kumbeswarar Temple This is the famous temple at Kumbakonam. The history of the City says
that the "Mulavar" of the shrine is "suyambu". This is the Place of Origin of
the World. The name of the City is also resulted from the history of the temple.
The temple is famous for sculptures. This is one the largest temples built at
the period of Chola. You will be astonished to see the fine works in the ceiling
of the shrine.This Temple(17th century) of Kumbakonam is built in such geometrically
calculated planning and architectural scheme that on some special day, sunlight directly
hits on the main linga. The carries of the God are all made of Silver.

2.Nageswarar Temple

Temple This is also famous for fine sculptures. You can see wonderful sculptures
in different poses. Great saints like Thirugnana sampandar, Thirunavukkarasar
wrote wonderful poems towards the God, Siva.

3.Sarangapani Temple

Sarangapani Temple is octogonal in shape having 3rd eye. Different images
are carved along with Apsaras.The 44m high 11- storeyed Gopuram is famous
for its sculpture. The interior is well decorated. Images in dancing and
reciting music (vocal) form are carved in the columns and edges of the ceilings.
Flowers, plants and creepers, crocodiles are also carved there. The episodes of
marriage of Lord Shiva and Parvati besides other mythological episodes are displayed.
The outer part is equally well ornamented.
This temple is equivalent to Thiruvarangam in grace. It has a car which
is second largest in world. It is a great Car festival like Thiruvarur Car
Festival. This also has famous poetries writtened by great saints, "Vainavas"
especially Nammalvaar. |
4.Ramasami Temple

Temple Among few temples to ram, the Hero of Ramayana, this is also a famous
one. Here you can see the excellent paintings of the great purana, Ramayana. the
entire story is described beautifully before many centuries.

5.Someswarar Temple |

Jupiter was blessed from his curse. So the place is equivalent to Alangudi.

6.Chakkarapani

which is situated at the bank of river kaveri, 13th century Chakrapani Temple
is the biggest of all, having colourfully sculptured passionate
engraving is another attraction. The God in it is combined Shiva - Vishnu.

7.Kasiviswanathar Temple |
Kasi
Viswanathar Temple Worshipping the god here is as the same as in Kasi. Bath
taking in Mahamaham Tank of this temple is equivalent to "Ganga Snanam".
